GS-Zeichen, was bedeutet das?
Was bedeutet das GS-Zeichen?
Das GS-Zeichen zertifiziert ein Produkt für seine geprüfte Sicherheit. Grundlage für die Zertifizierung ist das Produktsicherheitsgesetz, anhand dessen alle für das Produkt relevanten Sicherheitsfaktoren geprüft werden. Das GS-Zeichen ist vor allem bei Produkten wie Lampen und Leuchten von großer Wichtigkeit. Es wird nämlich nur dann vergeben, wenn eine unabhängige Prüfstelle sichergestellt hat, dass das Produkt keine Gefahr für den Menschen darstellt. Gerade bei minderwertigen Produkten, die dieses Siegel nicht besitzen, geht die größte Gefahr von Kurzschlüssen aus, die im schlimmsten Fall sogar zu einem Hausbrand führen könnten.Wer vergibt das GS-Zeichen?
Das GS-Zeichen wird von einer dafür zugelassenen Prüfstelle vergeben. Bestimmt werden diese Prüfstellen von der Zentralstelle der Länder für Sicherheitstechnik (ZLS). Diese überwacht gleichzeitig auch die jeweiligen GS-Prüfstellen. Das GS-Zeichen wird von unabhängigen Prüfstellen vergeben, die durch die Zentralstelle der Länder Sicherheitstechnik überwacht werden. Die bekannteste dieser Prüfstellen stellt beispielsweise der TÜV-Rheinland.

Wie wird geprüft?
Ein gutes Beispiel, wie eine Prüfung für das GS-Zeichen eines Produktes abläuft, lässt sich anhand der IP Schutzklassen für eine LED-Leuchte skizzieren. Der Hersteller kann nun vorgeben, dass seine Leuchte den Vorgaben der IP65 Schutzklasse entspricht. Doch, um dies auch von einer unabhängigen Stelle prüfen zu lassen, beauftragt das Unternehmen nun eine Prüfstelle, die genau nachsieht, ob das Produkt den angeforderten Qualitätsmerkmalen der IP65 Schutzklasse auch standhält. Dabei erfolgt eine Simulation, die schließlich möglichst realitätsnah abläuft. Hält das Produkt dem Test stand, erfolgt die Auszeichnung auf Geprüfte Sicherheit mit dem Prüfzeichen. Gibt es Abweichungen muss der Hersteller entweder nachbessern, oder er verzichtet auf die freiwillige Prüfung für das GS-Zeichen.

Ist das GS-Zeichen Pflicht?
Eine Pflicht für das GS-Zeichen auf Produkten gibt es nicht. Allerdings lehnen viele Baumärkte und Einkaufscenter Produkte ab, die nicht auf ihre Sicherheit geprüft wurden. Das GS-Zeichen ist im Gegensatz zum CE-Zeichen keine Pflicht für den Hersteller. Um es zu erhalten, lässt der Hersteller einer Lampe einen freiwilligen Test durchführen, damit das Produkt das GS-Zeichen erhält. Dies kann zwei Vorteile gegenüber dem Wettbewerb haben. Einmal achten immer mehr Kunden auf die Geprüfte Sicherheit eines Produktes. Zudem baut der Kunde ein gewisses Vertrauen zu dem Hersteller auf, da die Prüfung für das GS-Zeichen ja freiwillig ist. Die andere Seite sind aber auch die Großhändler. Besitzt eine Lampe das GS-Zeichen nicht, ist es durchaus möglich, dass der Händler die Lampe gar nicht erst in sein Sortiment mit aufnimmt. Auch, wenn die Prüfung also grundsätzlich freiwillig ist, achten heute auch viele Händler darauf, weil sie ihren Kunden keine Produkte verkaufen möchten, die nicht auf eine ausreichende Sicherheit geprüft sindWelche Produkte können das GS-Zeichen erhalten?
Die Das GS-Siegel erhalten alle Produkte, die auf ihre Sicherheit geprüft wurden. Dabei müssen sie jedoch verwendungsfertig sein, ohne, dass weitere Teile eingefügt werden müssen. Ein Beispiel hierfür sind Wasserkocher oder Lampen.

Klar festgelegt sind alle Produktkategorien, für die die Prüfstellen ein jeweiligen Zertifikat ausstellen – oder kurz gesagt, welche Produkte auf das GS-Zeichen geprüft werden können. Hierzu zählen unter anderem Leuchten, Haushaltsgeräte, Schutzausrüstungen, Spielzeug, Werkzeuge, Automobilzubehör, Möbel, Bürogeräte, Gartengeräte und noch vieles mehr. Es gibt allerdings auch Produkte, die nicht auf das GS-Siegel getestet werden können. Hierzu zählen zum Beispiel medizinische Produkte, Lebensmittel und Produkte für das Militär. Der Grund ist ganz einfach, dass es für diese Kategorien eigene Prüfstellen gibt, die sich darauf spezialisiert haben.Was ist der Unterschied zwischen CE und GS?
Im Gegensatz zum GS-Siegel werden beim CE-Siegel nicht ausschließlich sicherheitsrelevante Aspekte überprüft. Gemäß der CE-Richtlinien werden hierbei alle Produkte, die in der Europäischen Gemeinschaft hergestellt werden, auf die gleichen Kriterien geprüft, um den Warenverkehr innerhalb der EU zu vereinfachen. Die Unterschiede zwischen der Prüfung für das GS-Zeichen und das CE-Zeichen sind vielseitiger, als es auf den ersten Blick erscheint. So prüft beim GS-Zeichen beispielsweise der TÜV-Rheinland, während das CE-Zeichen von Hersteller selbst vergeben wird. Dabei muss er lediglich auf die gültigen Vorgaben achten. Entsprechend ist ein CE-Zeichen oder die damit verbundenen Richtlinien, um das Produkt in den Warenverkehr innerhalb der EU zu bringen, obligatorisch. Das GS-Zeichen, beziehungsweise die Geprüfte Sicherheit, wird durch ein unabhängiges Institut vergeben. Weitere Unterschiede sind außerdem, dass beim GS-Zeichen die Sicherheit geprüft wird, während das CE-Zeichen lediglich die Konformität mit den Richtlinien bestätigt.
